Bear’s Paw Fabrics Towson, Maryland

Located about a mile from Interstate 695, this fascinating shop is owned by Judy Munro. As a Bernina dealer, the shop focuses on teaching classes on sewing, machine use, and using all of the different software available for Bernina systems. They also represent Accuquilt Go systems. Add to that a great collection of fabrics, and you have a sewing and teaching center for the community – certainly not your average quilt shop.

Fabrics include a great collection of Tilda, a designer of fabrics in wonderfully soft floral and geometric patterns designed in Norway. They have a delightfully soft hand and all blend one with another. There are also the bright and vibrant Kaffe Fassett prints, and a nice selection of Tula Pink. Kimberbell patterns and fabrics are also on hand. These are supported by solids, blenders, and tone on tones. Don’t miss the batiks and panels. If you enjoy applique, pick up one of the scrap bags, great selections is small sizes for those occasional bits that you don’t want to buy a whole piece to cover. There are also 5 X 5 pre-cut packs, strip packs, and fat quarter bundles. There are also flannels in plaids, solids, and fall prints, and vinyl and mesh for bags.

The detail on the samples is beautiful. This is just one corner of a full quilt, but is shows clearly the detail in both piecing and stitching. This shop carries over 200 different patterns for quilts, bags, and table runners, to mention a few. If you are interested in improving either your quilting or sewing skills, or getting more familiar with your machine, check out their class offerings. There is a great selection of wool on hand as well, demonstrated in the wool quilt pictured below.

I would plan to spend at least thirty to forty-five minutes here to see all of the goodies.
