Ellicott City Sew Vac Ellicott City, Maryland

Located just under three miles from Interstate 70, this “sewing machine store with fabric” is a nice stop if you are anywhere near Baltimore or Washington, DC. Owner Janice Martin Freeland started selling machines 34 years ago and added fabric as she went along. She is one of the country’s largest Baby Lock dealers, and handles repairs for all brands of sewing machines. She also has the largest collection of feet and attachments I’ve seen so for.

Speaking of sewing machines, the shop handles domestic sewing machines, embroidery machines, and long arm systems. Check out the feet! Machine buyers get 5 years of free service, unlimited “how to use” classes, and discounts on fabrics and other goodies.

This isn’t close to all of the feet available!!

Then there is fabric, over 1,700 bolts of it, by Northcott, Robert Kaufman, Timeless treasures, and more. There are wonderful large and small prints, solids and blenders, and batiks. There is also a nice selection of wide backings and panels. Don’t miss the tone on tones and 30’s Reproduction fabrics. If you enjoy making bags, there is and cork, mesh, and zippers by the yard.

Samples are throughout the shop, both of pieced and embroidered quilts. The piece at the right is all embroidery, and is gorgeous in person. Do check out the patterns and books for quilting and bag making. Kimberbell embroidery patterns are here to go with the threads by Floriani, Mettler, and Aurafil, available in a multitude of colors for your sewing and embroidery projects. I would plan to be here for at least twenty-five to forty minutes, longer if you start checking out the machines.
