Capital Quilts Gaithersburg, Maryland

Located less than a mile from Interstate 270, this busy shop is owned by Marianne Losey and has been serving the Gaithersburg area for over twenty years. Samples are somewhat unique in that every one shows the pattern and designer, a feature I really appreciate but don’t see as often as I would like.

There is a great selection of fabrics here, with over 5,000 bolts on hand at any given time. Designers include Riley Blake, Andover, Kaffe Fassett, Northcott, M&S Aboriginals, and Gypsy Soul by QT Fabrics, a wonderful collection of bright ombres. There are wonderful batiks, and large and small prints. These are complemented by solids, blenders, and ivory and white tone on tones. There is also a selection of 30’s Reproduction fabrics, Orientals, and panels. Don’t miss the mini mosaics by Cheryl Lynch!

Do enjoy the samples while you’re visiting. There are also quilt kits, and a great collection of patterns for quilts, clothing, and bags. The one at the right is Turnstyle by Amy Ellis, done in Juicy Juice fabrics. Shop samples are sold when the fabric line is no longer available, or the space is needed for new displays. Please ask at the shop if there is one you particularly want to have. Tags also indicate the availability of kits for the quilt shown.

These are just two of the available Mini Mosaics, designed by Cheryl Lynch and made with tiny (think 1/2 X 1/4 inch or so) scraps of fabrics. I had to show these more closely; they are adorable.

The shop is a dealer for Janome machines, Accuquilt Go, and Handi Quilter long arm systems. Long arm time may be rented after a class; please contact the shop for details.

I would plan to be in this shop for at least thirty to forty-five minutes.
