If you’re traveling through Sioux Falls, South Dakota, make time to stop and visit Quilters Headquarters at 3705 South Grange Avenue, less than two miles from I229.
This shop works hard to be the “go to” place for quilting supplies and sewing machines, and they are doing a good job of it. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and I was immediately welcomed and made a part of the viewing of a customer’s quilt. Asked what makes her store special, owner Lori Kern said, “Ask my customers.” One immediately replied, “Anybody working in the shop is knowledgeable and can help you.”
This is actually Lori Kern’s second store – the first was in Canton, South Dakota, in 2010. She opened Quilters Headquarters in Sioux Falls in 2012, and has since sold the Canton store.
The store features a large collection of Northcott fabrics, as well as batiks, cotton prints and blenders. Only a few are pictured here – you really need to stop in and browse!
Don’t miss all of the sample quilts hung on display. If you’re not sure what your next project should be, stop in and look for inspiration.
Many are class samples and some have kits available. If you prefer, buy the pattern and one of the friendly staff will help you to select your own fabrics and colors.
There is a long arm set up right inside the shop doors. A customer was picking up a finished quilt when I arrived, and I got to admire the beautiful workmanship with the rest of the folks present.
The store deals in Juki and Pfaff machines, so if you’re looking for a new toy, be sure to browse the machines as well as the fabric.
Before you leave town, drive down to Falls Park and see why the town is named Sioux Falls – beautiful!
