Located about a mile from US 12, this busy shop has it all covered – buy your machine and fabric, sew all day, and relax in your private spa! Owners are Tara and Josh Redberg, who bought the shop in 2014. Josh handles sales and the in house repair department, while Tara handles fabric and quilting.
There are over 4,000 bolts of fabric on display here, including solids and blenders, batiks, and tone on tones. Civil War fabrics are well represented, and Kaffe Fassett and Tula Pink are also featured. Large and small prints are part of every collection, with some wonderful Stack-n-Whack candidates. Holiday fabrics are on hand all year, and Fat Quarters are shelved by their parent bolts. Don’t miss the Layer Cakes, Charm Packs, and Jelly Rolls! There is a wonderful collection of panels, with an iPad mounted on the wall so you can look through them and see the whole panel. They are shelved by number, so easy to find once you’ve made your selection. There is also a great selection of wide backings. Say hello to Adrian, the shop mascot, if he’s working when you visit.
Samples are wonderful, starting with this Santa. The beard and hair are machine done ribbon embroidery, a technique I had not seen before. There are classes at all levels, and generally at least two Block of the Month groups running. Please check online for schedules. There are also Glide, Gutterman, and Sulky threads for general sewing or embroidery. Check out the patterns both with the fabrics and on racks. Rulers and notions are also available.
The shop is a dealer for Handi Quilter, Pfaff, and Viking machines, and repairs all brands. Long Arm services are available; please call the shop for pricing and lead times. Speaking of machines, Miss Tara accepted the challenge of modifying a machine so that a person blind from birth could fulfill her dream of making a quilt. She added Braille to the knobs and controls, and a seam width guide.
Then she practiced sewing blindfolded so she could teach her customer to use the machine. truly and innovative adaptation! As an Industrial Engineer, I applaud her determination and resourcefulness. The customer made a quilt and entered it into a shop contest, and won. News got around, and the shop was awarded Business of the Year by the Washington Council for the Blind. Well done!!
I would plan to spend at least thirty to forty minutes here, longer if you get into looking at the new machines.
