When you are choosing a name for your quilt shop, what better inspiration than your mother and your granddaughter? History major, quilter, and shop owner Sue Richter chose to honor both when she named her shop. Located just under two miles from US 40, and less that five miles from Interstate 70, this delightful shop is located in the Shab Row complex in historic downtown Frederick, Maryland. There is off street parking beside the store; the photo is from the side from my parking space.. You can enter by the front door off of the street, or the back door from the parking lot, your preference.
This shop is a Symposium Shop, one of 65 shops in the United Stated and Canada. These shops participate in a Brown Bag Mystery every year. This is an annual event by quilter, teacher, and fabric designer Karen Montgomery. This year’s mystery starts in March, and prep work was under way so the upstairs fabrics were off limits while kits were being made. Fabrics I saw included solids and blenders, tone on tones, batiks, and large and small prints. I saw part of the Civil War collections at the top of the stairs. This collection takes up a good part of the second floor. I also saw Tilda, Moda, and Free Spirit including Kaffe Fassett and Tula Pink, and Tim Holtz. There are also 30’s Reproduction shirting’s, not generally intended for clothing, but any 100% cotton would certainly make nice shirt if you are in the habit of sewing your own! All together there are over 5,000 bolts on hand here, so I’m sure something will want to follow you home.
There are wonderful samples here, from quilts to Poppins Bags. Patterns are available, as well as some kits. There are a lot of patterns here, so check them out and build yourself a kit to go. Block of the Month clubs are also in process, and can be joined online. Cards for local Long Arm Quilters are also available.
I would plan to be here for at least thirty to forty-five minutes.
