Life’s A Stitch Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada

Located just 10 miles from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, this delightful shop is a great trip “over the border”, or a few miles from the Trans Canadian Highway if you are traveling across Canada. Owner Robyn Thompson opened the store in 1991, and has been serving local quilters and sewing enthusiasts ever since.

Fabric on hand totals over 2,500 bolts. Designers include Kaffe Fassett, Northcott, and Toronto Team Fabrics. The shop stocks a wonderful collections of panels and animal prints. There are also solids and blenders, tone on tones, and beautiful batiks. Large and small prints are available. There are over one hundred different wide backings on hand, not including 90″ Cuddle. There are Bali Pops and other precuts on hand as well.

Look around as you shop – there are wonderful samples here. Pay attention to the labels- they show both who made the item, and who quilted it. Most of the makers are in house, so if you want the pattern and have questions about it, chances are excellent that someone in house can help you or explain how the pattern goes together. Some also have kits, so do check out the great selection of patterns on hand.

Life’s A Stitch is a licensed dealer for Viking Husqvarna machines, so if you are in the market, do check out the machines while you are here. I travel with a Viking Emerald. I can run it on my back-up Power Supply for about 5 hours, and it fits under my Murphy Bed when it’s down for sleeping. I run about 10 kilometers of thread through it a year, and I’ve never had to turn it in for maintenance, so they are great little workhorses.

I would plan to be here for twenty to forty minutes.
