Located 40 miles from Interstate 95, and a mile from the entrance to Acadia National Park, the shop is actually two shops in one. Owned by Ruth Davis, Quilt N Fabric carries fabric and yarn. She has recently added Knick Knack Paddy Whack, with a connection inside the store and managed by her daughter.
The store carries over 1,200 bolts of fabric, including nautical themes for your Maine memories quilt, batiks, blenders, Australian fabrics, Minky, and flannel. The fabric also features a lot of wonderful prints, many suitable for Stack-n-Whack. There are also panels, including fabric books. Samples are everywhere to inspire you.
Knick Knack Paddy Whack carries completed quilts, table runners, pot holders, knit items, and a collection of the most adorable handmade stuffed elephants. Most items in are on consignment from local crafters. There is also a selection of buttons, yarn, counted cross stitch kits, and needlepoint kits. If you need a portable project for at you campsite or in your hotel, check these out.
During the winter months, Quilt N Fabric partners with two local shops for the Ice Quilting Derby. Each shop designs three blocks based on agreed upon themes – this year is home, animal, and tree – and then trade the block designs. Then each store makes a quilt with everyone’s patterns, using fabrics of their choice. Customers can then purchase the patterns and make the quilts themselves, or with their own fabric choices. Plan to be here at least 30 minutes.
