Fabricate, LLC Bar Harbor, Maine

Located right outside Arcadia National Park in an octagonal former bank building, this lovely shop is unique in more than the building design. Owned Nessa Reifsnyder and Erin Cough, this is a great stop if you are anywhere near Bar Harbor or Acadia.

The owners design and sell scrap booking paper, but this is also a full bore quilt shop. There are over 700 bolts of fabric here, and you will not find Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, Moda, or any of the other big national brands. What you will find is fabrics you will not find anywhere else, withe the exception of the Maine Shop Hop Fabric Collection. The store is sorted by category, so you will find all of the landscape prints together, all of the rock motif fabrics together, all of the trees together, and so on. As someone who is often searching for a particular style, usually trees to border my Stack-n-Whack blocks, I love this approach. Fabrics include flannels, batiks, lots of prints, blenders, and cork. Fat quarters tend to be near the bolt, so you can select a smaller piece without hunting through bins if that is what your project needs. Don’t forget to check out the fabrics in the vault…

Be sure to check out the samples. This one is easily seen by children, but adults tend to take some time to see what it really is. This is just one of the many art quilts on display here.

For those of us who both quilt and scrapbook, or for your non-quilting scrap book making friends, check out these unique papers. I was here for just over an hour, but I looked at all of the papers as well as the fabric. Plan on at least 30 to 45 minutes.

  1. Hi, I brought in my jacket made from an antique quilt. I would like you to send me a “friend” request. I am not savvy enough to send you one.
I want to share with you a photo of the Disney crib quilt I made from the material I purchased from you.
    Sincerely,
    Mimi
