Located just over four miles from PA-43 Turnpike, this accidental quilt shop is a wonderful stop. When Structural Engineer Amy Costabile decided to get together with friends to sew, and then they needed more space, and then they started buying fabric, she never thought it would become a busy quilt shop that offers lots of fabrics and a great roster of classes.
Miss Amy is still working as an engineer, but that doesn’t detract from the shop at all. She is there in person on the week-ends, and via phone and message all week. Her staff is very knowledgeable and does a wonderful job.
Fabrics are bright and cheerful, with over 2,600 bolts on hand, Selections range from large and small prints to a wall of batiks. There are blenders and solids, tone on tones, and both Civil War and 30’s Reproduction fabrics. Wide backings are available, as well as panels (over 50), Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, and Fat Quarter packs, The shop is the area outlet for Sassy Sunflower Designs, based in Atlanta, Georgia. You select a fabric kit and them pick one of a dozen or so patterns to make with it. Quilts finish at about 48 X 60, and the vendor only sells to one shop in any given area. This shop makes “Sassy Packs” for each new fabric collection received, so you can have an instant idea of what to do with the collection.
Samples are displayed throughout the shop. The one at the right is from an Angled Log Cabin class, and belonged to a customer who was looking for borders. It is used with her permission. Quilt kits are available, as are classes tp complete the kit for most of them. Beginning Sewing classes are held once a year; other selections are in process most of the time. Please check the website for the class listing and see what you’d like to learn next. Miss Amy is a certified Studio 180 instructor, so if you want to learn to use really fun specialty rulers, do stop in or check out the class schedule.
There is a Facebook Live presentation on Saturday at 9:30 AM Eastern, where new arrivals are shown and other tips discussed, as well as reviewing upcoming classes. I would plan to be in the shop for at least thirty to forty minutes when you visit.
