Continental Sewing Center Lexington, Kentucky

First it was a bank, then it was a sewing machine store, and now it’s a sewing machine store with fabric. Located just about four miles from Interstate 75, this unique shop has wonderful sewing machines, great fabric, and a bank vault full of thread. The original shop opened in 1964, and owner Kevin Croucher’s father bought it in the 1990’s. Kevin bought it from him several years ago. All together, they have been serving the local area for almost sixty years, and they know sewing machines!

We’ll talk machines in a minute – let’s talk fabric. There are over 500 bolts of fabric here, including plain Grunge, solids, and blenders. Gingham and polka dots are also featured. Check out the large and small prints, and Kentucky University prints. Webbing for bags is on hand, as well as a great selection of heat transfer vinyls. Jelly Rolls and Charm Packs are also on hand. Do wander into the old bank vault and check out all of the thread!

The shop is a licensed dealer for Brother, Bernina, and Janome machines. They repair all brands, however, and 99% of the time the repair can be completed in house. They have been doing this long enough that they have parts for many of the older machines on hand, so if you have an old friend that needs help, call and see if they can take care of it. If you haven’t seen the Kaffe Fassett Bernina, it’s worth admiring… I would plan to be here for twenty to thirty minutes.
