Located 14 miles from Interstate 70 in central Maryland, Google maps will take you to the loading dock. Instead go straight at the last stop sign until you run out of road and then turn left. Owner Dawn Stewart started as a quilter, then a pattern designer and teacher, and finally grew into a shop outside her home in 2012. Daughter Heather also works in the shop; husband Bob made the wishing well, and daughter Lisa also sews, so it truly is a family affair.
Fabric. Over 3,000 bolts, including among others Kaffe Fassett and Tula Pink from Free Spirit, Andover, Henry Glass, and Hoffman. Check out the blenders and solids, and wonderful batiks. There are large and small prints to mix with the blenders and solids, not to mention a nice collection of Civil War and flannels. A nice selection of wide backings is also available. Jelly rolls, Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes are also around, and fat quarters are stored with their parent bolts. There are also gorgeous panels! Just for fun, take time to check out the antique machines on top of most of the shelves.
The shop is a Handi Quilter dealer. If you are looking for a system, please check them out. On the other hand, if your space won’t fit a ten or twelve foot machine, consider taking a class and renting time on the shop machines. You can also let the shop do the quilting for you. Please contact the shop for costs and lead times for these options.
Don’t miss the samples, hung throughout the shop. make sure you go back to the classroom and enjoy the panels hung there! The shop represents Accuquilt Go, with a nice selection of systems and dies. Laura Heine collage patterns are available. I love how these come out with Kaffe Fassett fabrics! Other patterns are also available, as well as a selection of kits. Books of patterns and quilting techniques are also on hand. Thread by Aurifil for your sewing and embroidery pleasure are also in stock. I would plan to be in the shop for at least thirty to forty-five minutes to see everything.
