Located down a spur road off of AK-3, I found this shop the first time I was in Alaska (before I started this blog) when a woman running traffic control and I got to talking while I waited for a Pilot Car through a constructions zone. It is 14 miles up the spur, but well worth the trip! The shop is owned by Lori Outland, and moved into a larger space January 1, 2022, right across from their old location and nearly twice the size. Imagine moving hundreds of bolts of fabric in an Alaskan winter!
There are beautiful fabrics here, including Kaffe Fassett, Tula Pink, and Gypsy Soul, an absolutely gorgeous ombre. Check out the solids and blenders, including plain Grunge. Small and large prints are here, and the Stack-n-Whack candidates are hard to leave behind. There are Alaskan themed fabrics, both batiks and regular cotton, and tone on tones. Don’t miss the panels, or the quilt kits! There is a new series of kits called Alaskan Arctic that came out in late August. The 1,000 plus bolts on hand also include wide backs in cotton and cuddle. The shop has cards for local long armers, and you can arrange to drop off and pick up at the shop if needed. The shop also carries a nice selection of yarns.
I loved this display, happily called the store front window, but it is inside so you can admire it without freezing in the winter. The Exploding Heart Quilt in Kaffe fabrics is just wonderful! The Polar Bear and Silver Fox are from the new Alaskan Arctic series; kits are available. There is also a selection of Alaskan themed gifts and souvenirs available as you enter the shop. I would plan to spend at least twenty to forty minutes here.
