Granma’s Quilt Shop Healy, Alaska

Located under a mile from AK-3, this delightful shop is co-owned by Lori Hame and Vada Peterman, a mom and daughter pair. Since the kids enjoy coming to Granma’s, they chose that name for the shop. After all, don’t we all turn into kids in a quilt store? The shop is housed in a log cabin, so don’t forget to look up while you’re shopping. Space limitations mean many of the samples are on the ceiling…

Fabrics offerings range from solids and blenders, including plain Grunge, to large and small prints. There are also wonderful batiks, and a nice selection of wide backings. Fat quarter bundles, Jelly Rolls, and Layer Cakes are also on hand. Check out the great selection of Alaska themed prints, as well as patriotic fabrics and wonderful panels All together there are over four hundred bolts of fabric on hand here.

Long arm services are available; please call the shop for pricing and lead times. There are also some wonderful samples available to admire. The star made with hexagons is stunning! Quilt kits are available, as are patterns. I prefer to generate my own kits, as my color schemes rarely match the pre-selected fabrics. Besides, if I buy a kit then my quilt looks just like someone else’s. If you need help selecting fabrics, just ask!

I would plan to be here at least twenty to thirty minutes.
