Magical Stitches is a quilt shop four minutes from I75 in Macon, Georgia. Drive toward the big building in the back; it’s on the corner.
Google maps may take you in the Skipperton Road entrance. In that case it is around the back of the first building on your right.
Owner Linda Hennessey calls it “the eclectic quilt shop,” and I have to agree. This shop has one of the largest collections of unique and different fabrics I’ve ever seen in one place.
One of the other unique items in the shop is beaded Christmas Ornaments, made from fabric and vintage jewelry.
Some have the fabric tucked and pinned in place to form the design. Others have the fabric tucked and pinned and then the folds highlighted with beads or other jewelry pieces, often bits of antique earrings, necklaces, or brooches.
Don’t miss checking out these beautiful ornaments while you’re in the shop. Some are hanging from a Christmas tree while others are in a basket. Check the shelves and see if you can find the bolt of fabric used to make them!
When the gold highlighted Oriental fabrics first came out, I promised myself I would not start collecting them – FAIL! I love them, and have made some wonderful Stack-n-Whack® fans and other designs with these fabrics. Most shops carry a few bolts of these – Magical Stitches carries a few SHELVES!!
I often need a black/gold blender – there are a dozen choices. Want a good strong print? She has them. Do you need to find something unusual for a special quilt? Browse and enjoy.
Magical Stitches is a Baby Lock dealer, and carries threads and accessories to match. Take a few minutes to look at the machines available, or ask Miss Linda to demonstrate one for you.
The shop also carries the released QuiltWorx (Judy Neimeyer) patterns. They also have QuiltWorx classes taught by an Atlanta based instructor. Check the class schedule for when the next one is happening.
Plan to spend at least an hour here – it will take you that long to see all of the fabrics and samples in the shop. Don’t forget to look on top of the fabric shelves and admire the vintage machines…
