Ace Sewing Center Wichita Falls, Texas

located just over two miles from Interstate 44 and close to the Texas Oklahoma border, this shop is primarily sewing machines. Owner Judy Aulds-Reams took over the store from her parents in 2000; they opened the store in 1987 so she grew up in the business. There is a large fabric store close by (The Enchanted Quilt, www.theenchantedquilt.com) that was closed the day I was in the area. I would check out this store for machines and Kimberbell, and the other store for fabrics. There was a quilting class in progress at this shop the day I visited, and the shop makes kits for their classes. They fill fast, so sign up early.

There are not a lot of fabrics here, probably under 100 bolts, but they do carry Lori Holt kits and patterns, and a lot of Kimberbell patterns, embellishments, kits, and some fabrics. Classes on how to use the machines often produce a quilt along the way. Kimberbell kits are pre-ordered, and include the fabrics, embellishments, and CD. Call ahead to get on the order list if you are interested. There is a Kimberbell Club that meets at the shop.

The shop is a dealer for Janome, Brother, Baby Lock, and Handi Quilter machines machines. Plan to spend some time shopping if you are looking for a machine. The staff is quite knowledgeable and can share the benefits of each of the brands.

There are also sample quilts on display, with patterns available. Many have embroidered squares rather than pieced. Notions are a big seller here, with the caveat that if you want it and they don’t have it, they will order it for you.
