Located less than three miles from Interstate 81, and across the street from Paramount Elementary School, this delightful shop is owned by Kathy Martin, who purchased it from the Wilson family in 1989. I was fortunate enough to meet one of the Wilson family members when I was visiting, who still considers it her favorite quilt shop. In any case, the shop has been serving local quilters and sewists for well over fifty years. Talking to customers, it truly lives up to it’s name a “Your Favorite Quilt Shop.”
Beautiful fabrics live here. With over 3,500 bolts to choose from, you are sure to find several who need to come home with you. There are solids, white and ivory tone on tones, and wonderful blenders. These include Grunge in plain and metallic, Northcott, Kaffe Fassett, and Tula Pink, among others. Civil War and 30’s Reproduction share space with batiks and large and small prints. Fabrics are grouped by color family rather than designer or type, so you can easily match coordinating blenders to your prints, at least for the main color in the prints. Then stroll on to the section for the next color and match that one as well. Don’t miss the Moda Homespun, a completely reversible yarn dyed fabric. There are flannels and a nice selection of wide backings, not to mention Cuddle in 60′ widths. Charm Packs, Layer Cakes,Wilson’s is a dealer for Brother, Viking, Pfaff, and Juki sewing machines. Repairs for these and other machines are completed in house. and Jelly Rolls are available in quilting cottons, and some also in flannels.
The shop specializes in embroidery, demonstrated on this sample quilted entirely on an embroidery machine rather than a long arm system. The background bricks are fit around the central motif by the machine. The cardinals are embroidered in blocks, then sewn together. Be sure to look for other creative uses for your embroidery machine while you’re visiting. Wilson’s is a dealer for Brother, Viking, Pfaff, and Juki sewing machines. This quilt is stunning in person, and only one of the many samples that are on display. It is “Out of the Shadows” by Emma How and is only one of the available quilt patterns. Most samples have patterns available and are made by shop employees. There are also Creative Grid rulers and other quilting notions. Buttons and Kimberbell embroidery patterns can also be found here. Enjoy these and other quilts during your time in the shop. They are tucked at the ends of aisles, hung on the wall, and hung near the shelves holding the material used to make them.
I would plan to spend at least thirty to forty minutes here to see all that is available.
