Changing Tides LLC Juneau, Alaska

Jan Nardone’s wonderful shop is in easy walking distance of the cruise ship docks. I actually first visited here on my first trip to Alaska, a cruise, when I was still working. I stopped back on my retirement trip, and it was after that trip that my kids informed me that I needed to blog my quilt shop visits…

This shop is still a delight to visit, even five years after my first time. The shop carries at least 50% Alaskan themed fabrics, many special orders of 10 or more bolts for the summer tourist season. Backings and flannels are only available in the winter, as they take up too much room during the summer months, when the 2,000 plus fabrics use all of the available space. There are blenders and solids, as well as tone on tones. Batiks are simply beautiful, and Alaskan designed regular cottons are also featured. Other designers include Kaffe Fassett and M&S Aboriginals. A great selection of wildlife panels is also available. Quilt kits are on hand, as are fat quarter packs and layer cakes. There is also a great selection of hand dyed yarns, for those who both quilt and knit or crochet. Buttons and other notions are in stock as well.

Check out the wonderful samples as you tour the shop. Many have kits, which is quite useful if you have a limited time in port. There is generally a Block of the Month running, which you can request be mailed if you want to join in the fun. There is also a selection of native crafts available for sale, so you can do souvenirs for the rest of the family while you’re getting your fabric fix ;o). Don’t miss a chance to say hello to Harper, the shop mascot! I would plan twenty to forty minutes here.
