This shop is in the process of moving; the online shop is still open and very active. Located just about a mile from AK-1, and just over two miles from Thursday’s shop, they were preparing to move when I visited in August. Owner Jana Haynega hopes to be open in the new location by February, so a visit next summer would work just fine!
This shop features Alaskan artists and fabrics, with a sprinkling of other lines. There are wonderful batiks featuring fish, whales, and the “Alaskan State Bird” – the mosquito. There are solids and blenders, and large and small prints. M&S Aboriginals are well represented, and the panel selection is among the largest I’ve seen. Kits are put together in house, and feature designs by Alaskan artists. The shop generally carries over 1,000 bolts of fabric, and that is sure to increase when they are settled in their new space.
Samples are wonderful, and there are kits to make your own. Many have laser cut parts, and all are wonderfully detailed. The medallions around the panel quilt are simply stunning in their detail. Miss Jana also owns the Wooly Mammoth yarn shop across the street, and Cabin Fever Alaskan Gifts next door. I took the time to browse all three, and spent over an hour…
