Located just about eight miles from Interstate 90 (Ohio Turnpike), this is a really fun place to visit. Everyone knows the owners as Mabel and Ethel; not their real names but that is part of the fun! They are on Facebook Live every Thursday at 11:00 AM Eastern time, so set your alarm! There is also a Facebook group, Evenings with Ethel, on Wednesday’s from 8 to 10 PM Eastern. Check out the vintage machines around the shop while you are in, and see how many versions of “M E” you can find!
Fabrics are in charge here – there are primitives and woolens, as well as blenders, large and small prints, and Civil War styles. With over 750 bolts to choose from, you are sure to find something that catches your fancy. There is also toweling available. Don’t miss the Jelly Rolls,. Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes, and Fat Quarter Bundles! Check out the Moda Fireside, 60″ wide polyester and velvety soft. There are also a lot of kits, both cotton and wool, including Theresa Kogut Punch-needle Embroidery kits. There are Block of the Month Clubs running as well. Creative Grid rulers are also available.
There are some great samples here. The quilt at the right with the houses around the block is from Mabel and Ethel’s first quilting class. The bottom left is wool, and is great in person – the detail in the crazy quilting is amazing. It took me awhile to realize it is really a calendar, with a block for each month. Samples generally have patterns and some have kits, or you can create your own kit while you’re in the shop. There is a nice selection of patterns to choose from, with willing help if you are nervous about picking fabrics.
The item at the right is a silicone trivet, set in a quilted frame. I had not seen these before – the center section is a piece of textured silicon that comes in the kit. Additional silicon inserts can be purchased separately. I can see making these to match your tablecloth, place mats, or napkins.
