I normally write these shops up in the order I visit, but this shop is being moved ahead because it is being sold – and there isn’t a buyer yet. I’d hate to see this area lose such a wonderful shop! Owners Barbara and John Marcukaitis are retiring June 1st after 28 years, so if you ever wanted to own your very own quilt shop, now is the time! It is located just about five miles from Interstate 57, and about 50 miles south of Chicago’s Midway Airport.
There is a wonderful selection of fabrics here, with over 2,800 bolts to choose from. Colors are generally bright and cheerful, with solids and blenders, batiks, and both large and small prints. There is a wonderful selection of patriotic fabrics, and Northcott Fusion is well represented. Christmas prints are available year round, and there is a nice selection of flannels on hand. There are also panels available. Completed quilts, table runners, and wall hangings are also sold here, so if you need a quick gift this is a good place to look. Patterns using colors similar to what is on the shelves are hung between the fabrics, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go a totally different color direction for your quilt!. There is also a roomful of sale fabrics (about 500 bolts), so wander in and check it out.
There are samples hung throughout the store – don’t miss going into the classroom, where there are several wonderful examples of One Block Wonders and other class quilts. There was a Sit & Sew going on the day I visited, so I got to see some wonderful projects in process. Long Arm service is available; please call for pricing and lead times.
The shop is a registered dealer for Pfaff and Husqvarna Viking, as well as handling repairs for all makes and models. They also have a great selection of Hemingworth Embroidery thread, and some really fun gadgets and rulers Please plan to spend at least twenty to thirty minutes here. I was in the shop over an hour…
