Located just off of Interstate 77, this shop is housed in a building that started it’s life as an event center. The property had been empty for a couple of years when owner Barb Stevens bought it and remodeled it to make the current shop. The property faces a lake, and the front door is on the lake side of the building. Pay attention to the woodworking and shelving – these are all created by Miss Barb, clearly a woman of many talents beyond quilting.
The shop features over 1,200 bolts of fabric, and it is divided into different rooms.
This room is called the Church. Note that the “shelving” is repurposed pews, a pulpit, and kneelers. All of these have been rescued from destruction. Fabric here include blenders and the sale fabric, as well as a nice selection of Grunge. Note the samples on the walls. They fit the rooms so well that I’m not listing them separately.
This is the Wool Room – note the hand-dyed wool, all dyed by Miss Barb. The opposite wall (below) has bins of wool kits, designed and made in house. I love the quilts on the walls, particularly the bubbles – and they are all wool.
I called this the Civil War Room, but the shop may have a different name for it. I called it that in my notes before I realized the rooms had names, and realized as I’m writing this that I didn’t verify it before I left. It is all earth tones, and rather reminded me of the Thimbleberry line that was popular years ago. Furnishings are definitely reminiscent of the Civil War era, and the fabrics are beautiful, as are the quilts.
The main floor has other fabric collections, from patriotic to newly arrived collections to The Ohio State University fabrics. There are also batiks, wide backs ranging from 104″ to 120″, and a collection of threads and notions. What is amazing is that the “shelves” they are displayed upon are re-purposed bed frames. These are also all built by Miss Barb from rescued bed parts – headboards, foot-boards, and side rails. Some are refinished Deacon’s Benches.
Samples in the main room include a Block of the Month, also featured on the website, and a Shop Hop quilt in the kit building room. I would plan at least 45 minutes to an hour here – there is a LOT to see and enjoy!
