Located 25 minutes north of Canton off of Interstate 77, this shop answers the question, “What do you do in a recession when the major wage earner gets laid off?” Answer: Start doing custom clothing sewing from home, and then morph into a quilt shop. Owner Chrissi Stauffer worked out of her home basement for several years making children’s clothing.
She added quilting, then moved completely into quilting and the new location about two and a half years ago. Her daughters helped with the sewing in the beginning, and now work in the shop and design and make quilts.
Fabrics here feature Moda, Kaffe Fassett, Kaufman, Greener Pastures, and Anthology, to name a few. There are around 500 bolts on hand, and there is a connected Etsy store for online shopping. Styles include solids and blenders, plain Grunge, and some wonderful batiks. There are also large and small prints, and a selection of wool and flannel. There are kits for quilts designed in house, and some really fun panels. Charm Packs, Jelly Rolls, and Fat Quarter bundles are available. They also carry toweling and 108″ wide backing, and cuddle in 60″ widths. As a bonus, there is an Acuquilt Go system in house that can be used to cut fabrics purchased here, so you can sort through the pattern selection and leave with a pre-cut quilt kit – and you pick the fabrics! There is also a great selection of rulers and other notions.
As you might expect, there are samples hung everywhere here, designed and quilted by daughters and friends of the owner. I love this lamb pillow, and he is a kit! The silver one block wonder with a center scene is stunning in person. I also noticed a lot of applique over standard patterns, like the Jelly Roll Race with trees added.
Long Arm services are available; please call or email the shop for pricing and lead times. This is a family shop; the owner was doing a sewing class for family children when I was in (grade school age by the look of them; I did not interrupt to ask ages.) Other classes are available, from quilting to sewing clothing. the shop goal is to make you comfortable with sewing and quilting.
