Village Quilts – Canfield Canfield, Ohio

This busy shop is located just over a mile from Ohio 11, a major north-south connector in Eastern Ohio. Google Maps will take you right to the shop, but do enter through the side door. The front door that faces Main Street is not used, but there are two entrances on the side and back of the building. The side entrance is a much easier entry! Sisters Clare Neff and Betty Aberson own the shop, which opened in 2012. The building is 1861 vintage, and is fascinating in it’s own right. The design has lots of rooms and nooks and crannies to hold – you guessed it – fabric!

The fabric selection here includes over 2,400 bolts. There are Lynette Anderson Australian fabrics, solids and blenders, and plain Grunge. Did you know you can use the back of Grunge as a solid, and that it is designed to be used that way as well as printed side out? There are batiks, small prints, and some great large prints suitable for Stack-n-Whack. I saw a great collection of patriotic and Christmas fabrics, and some great tone on tones. Cork is also available, as are wool, cork, and panels, and wide backings. Shelves of fabric are sorted by color. There are Charm Packs, Layer Cakes, Bali Pops, Jelly Rolls, and Candies, which are 2 1/2″ pre-cut packs. Fat Quarter Bundles, DMC floss and wool embroidery thread are here as well.

Samples are hung throughout the shop, and many have kits to go with them. The Moth is one of a series by Tamara Kate. It is paper pieced, and kits are available, as are other quilts in the series. Stock fluctuates, so please check online or call the shop to see what is available at any given time.

There is also a wonderful collection of patterns, including some larger foundation pieced offerings shown at the right. If you’d like to create your own “kit” to go with your patterns, help is available if you need it.

Whatever you do, please do not miss the wall of Creative Grid Rulers by the back entrance behind the cash register! I’ve seen a lot of rulers, but some of these were new to me.

I would plan to be here for at least 20 to 40 minutes. Every time I thought I had seen everything, I spotted something I had missed. This wonderful old house is just full of nooks and open closets!

  1. I love rulers.
Makes measuring and cutting so much easier and stress free.
I am going to have to check this shop out since it is under 2 hours driving for me.
