Owner Rozanne Johnson and I have one thing in common – no one wants to spell our first name correctly! Jean is actually my middle name; my first name is Scheherazade – and that’s a story in itself! Either spelling, this delightful shop is out in the the middle of farm country about seven miles from Highway 36, and my sixth stop on the Highway 36 Quilt Trail. The last mile and a half are down a gravel road. Look for bald eagles in the trees along the way; I saw one as I was leaving. The shop has been serving the local community since 1998, and has a great selection of fabrics.
Miss Rozie said when she started the shop, she envisioned it as “an old lady’s kindergarten play house,” and it certainly fills the bill. There are over 600 bolts of fabric here, with lots of big prints, solids, tone on tone, blenders, batiks, and smaller prints. Add to that a nice selection of panels and wide backings, and you can easily spend 30 minutes looking around. There are also kits and patterns.
The shop offers long arm quilting, with husband Clayton driving the long arm. Please call for pricing and detail’s, as well as lead times.
Binding, of needed, is handled by Miss Rozie, who also makes the samples and chooses and orders the fabrics.
There are some really fun samples to be seen here. The quilt on the left, below, is a One Block Wonder made with panels, with the panel that was used as the centerpiece. I would not have thought to use such a random panel as a One Block Wonder, although I have used panels for this style, but this one is stunning. Unfortunately she was out of the panel, but I am certainly taking another look at some yardage selvage to selvage scenic “Panels!”
