Located just over twelve miles from Interstate 68, this cheerful shop is owned by Sandy Slemboski and named after her mother, Eleanor Gibson. It’s very easy to find and well worth the trip. Fabrics are organized by theme, and, as one customer put it, it is the most organized shop she has ever visited. The shop has been serving the local community since 1982.
With over 9,000 bolts of fabric on hand, organization is key to making anything you want easy to find. There is a crib full of children’s fabrics, and over 60 choices for wide backings. Christmas has its own section, as do fall and Halloween. Stripes and dots are available, and Orientals are well represented. Landscape prints are grouped, and 30’s Reproductions are present and accounted for. Panels, wildlife, fruits and vegetables, and solids and blenders fill out the roster. Flannels and calicos are here in abundance, and there are some wonderful Stack-N-Whack choices. Tone on tones are here in white, ivory, and gold.
You cannot miss this Drunkard’s Path quilt displayed in the shop. It was made by her mother’s church quilt guild in 1975, and is signed by each of the ladies in the guild. Take some time to admire the handiwork and stitching! This is truly a delightful heirloom and worth admiring. There are other wonderful samples on display as well, and kits are available for most of them.
The shop also carries a great selection of yarns, and has a consignment sales area if you’d like something handmade but don’t have the time or skills available to make it yourself. I’ll never tell anyone that you bought it… Plan to be here around 40 minutes.
