“There are no quilt police here, just creative people loving fabric.” This wonderful shop is on route 231 between Bloomington and Terra Haute, and is a beautiful drive through the Indiana countryside to a truly unique and fun shop. Owned by Lisa Stantz, her customers call it the happiest quilt shop in the area.
It focuses on the idea that quilting is fun, and has a live video every Wednesday to show you why. Miss Lisa is a lifetime resident of Spenser, and has been quilting and crafting all her life. If you are stuck on any pattern, come on in and ask for assistance.
Fabric rules the roost here – over 2,500 bolts ranging from tone on tones to solids and blenders to prints both large and small. There is a collection of 30’s reproduction fabrics in honor of the grandmother who taught Miss Lisa to quilt. There is Kaffe Fassett, Moda, Timeless Treasures, Grunge in plain and dots, batiks, and many more. There are flannels, Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes. In the second room, you will find a tub of savings – and who wouldn’t want a tubful of fabrics? The shop will be featured in the spring edition of Better Homes and Gardens as one of their Top 10. The magazine is due out the end of April, so be sure to check it out.
If you love Minky, be sure to check out this selection of 60″ wide low loft – it reminded me of the Angora sweaters my mother used to knit with fur from my rabbits. There are some wonderful children’s prints, great for baby or toddler quilts. Don’t miss the samples and quilt patterns available throughout the shop. The map of the United States is a wonderful demonstration of embroidery! There are embroidery patterns and threads to be had here as well. The shop also offers long arm services; please call for pricing and lead times. Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes here.
