Klaiber’s Sewing Center Bloomington, Indiana

Owned by Glen and Rose Hilderbrand and located less than two miles from Interstate 69, this is the second shop I found in Bloomington, and it was a wonderful find. It is tucked in next to a self storage lot, and Google Maps was a little confused as to where i needed to turn to get into the store, but finally got me there. Mr. Glen handles the machine repairs, and Miss Rose is the quilting expert. She really knows her fabrics, too! I asked for blue flowers, and she took me right to several choices.

Speaking of fabrics, there are over 2,500 bolts here to look through and be tempted. They are organized on collections, so you can pick a print and match to your heart’s content. There are prints, a great selection of earth tones, and some wonderful bright colors as well. Check out the solids and blenders if you’re trying to match a print and don’t find anything you like in the collection it came with. Wide backs are also available. There are a lot of kits, and a great selection of precuts, with many having the same print in Layer Cakes, Charm Packs, and Jelly Rolls. If you like butterflies as much as I do, you will be sorely tempted to blow the budget! Daisy and Sunflower lovers may also be in trouble…

Klaiber’s is a registered dealer for Janome and Baby Lock machines, so it you are in the market, stop in and check them out. As I said, Mr. Glen handles the repairs, so if your baby is sick, call and see what he can do for it. The shop does not have long arm service in house, but does act as a drop off and pickup point for local operators – please call for details. They also carry these adorable covers for mini composition books – pick you initial and have some fun! When the initial book is fill, simply slide in a new one.

Panels and quilt patterns are also available here – I had not seen this one of Noah’s Ark before. It is a digital print and it is amazing! There is also a wonderful collection of embroidery patterns from both Kimberbell and Dakota Collectables, and there is a great thread selection to go with the patterns. Floriani, Madera, and Sulky are all very well represented.

Plan to spend 20 to 40 minutes here, depending on how lost you get in the fabric selections and patterns.
