Just 12 miles from Interstate 80 on the way to Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market, you will find Jean and Lonnie’s quilt shop. This is the “out of the flea market” location – they are also present in the market, and actually started there. There is no outside sign, but Google Maps takes you right to the door.
This first thing you notice going in the door is color – bright colors everywhere, with a focus on prints. There are not a lot of solids, but there are blenders. Even the wide backs are bold prints. Look for a great selection of Australian prints, lots of Fossil Ferns, and a Stack-n-Whack lovers dream. Notice that every bolt is wearing a seat belt – this makes it wonderfully easy to pull bolts out to match colors without wrestling with the loose end. There is also a selection of completed quilts for sale.
Wander to the back and check out the selection of vintage machines on display. Mr. Lonnie collects and repairs these, and some of them are fascinating. There are also notions and Hoffman Watercolor Bundles available to tempt you. I love the rolled fat quarter bundles. One shop I have visited called these Hay Bales, which makes a lot of sense if you spend much time in farm country.
Plan to spend about 30 minutes here, a nice stop on the way to the Flea Market.
