Just about seven miles from Interstate 80, Lisa and Rich Spaulding’s Quilt Foundry is in the historic Buttergilt Building in Maumee, Ohio. Parking is around the back, and there is plenty of it. Enter the shop from Cass Street.
This shop is one of the display shops for Jacqueline de Jonge quilts. These are wonderfully complex designs using traditional blocks, and then jeweled. There are kits available, and the quilts themselves are stunning. All of the dots you see in the pictures are actually Swarovski crystals. I zoomed in on a section so they show up better, but you really need to see these in person.
There are over 4,000 bolts of fabric to look through here, ranging from a roomful of batiks to Grunge, Kaffe Fassett, solids, and blenders. There is also a sale section that can be very dangerous to your budget, but don’t let that slow you down! There are some great candidates for large scale print projects as well.
Have you ever wanted to make an Amish style quilt, but not wanted to use solids? I don’t generally use solids, as I find them a bit bland, but when I saw this collection my first thought was to use them for an Amish traditional pattern. They are called Pop Dots, by Wyndham Fabrics, and they would “read” as solid even though they are a print..
Quilt Foundry is a Baby Lock dealer, and also buys, sells, and services Featherweights. Check out the machines while you are there, or call Rich to put in a “watch for” if you are looking for a specific style or year Featherweight. The quilt behind the machines is another Jacqueline de Jonge; the lines in the white space are crystals.
The shop offers long arm rental, but you will need to take a training class first. Call the shop to schedule this, and then you can rent time and quilt your quilts on their machine. Both rental machines are stitch regulated for ease of use.
Plan to spend at least 30 to 45 minutes here.

Stop back on Thursday to see where the North American Shop Hop is visiting next!
The staff at the Quilt Foundry really knows how to put colors and patterns together. I’ve gone in there for help swapping out blues for purple, for example, and have always been impressed with the suggestions and help I’ve received from several employees. Worth the visit!
