Marie’s Sewing Center Hamburg, New York

This delightful shop is just a few minutes from Interstate 90, but be careful – it is in Hamburg, but Google still shows it in Eden, where is was until November of 2019. If you enter the street address you will get to the Rite Aid in the correct shopping center – the quilt shop is behind the Rite Aid.

Owned by Marie Walters, this is one of two shops with the same name. The other is in Lockport, and I will get there when the current crisis is over. I took a swing through New York and northwestern Pennsylvania just before the stay at home order came out, so I am reviewing those shops this month.

Marie’s Sewing Center carries over 3,000 bolts of fabric, with a focus on vibrant prints and fun panels. There are also batiks, blenders, and solids to complement the prints, as well as a selection of wide backs to finish your quilt. I must confess I rarely use anything but wide backs- I like having the trimmed pieces for other projects, and I don’t like the seams in the pieced backs.

Marie’s is also a great place to pick up a six-pack – of fabric! These delightful kits are six coordinated yards of fabric, and there is a pattern if you need one. They would make great gifts for quilting friends for Christmas or any other holiday or occasion. I’d be tempted to add glasses under the fabrics just to give them weight and credibility for my quilting friends who also imbibe…

You cannot miss the sewing machines. Marie’s is an outlet for Janome, Pfaff, Elna, Necchi, and Viking machines. They carry everything from basic sewing to the larger embroidery systems. Speaking of embroidery – the two samples below are both embroidered, and are beautiful close up. I may yet be tempted to get an embroidery system!

Want to add a bit of bling to your quilt? There is a wonderful selection of hot fix crystals to play with. There are also sample quilts throughout the store, as well as class samples to tempt you to sign up for the classes. The shop also puts together kits for standard tops and quilt as you go quilts.

Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes here looking around and trying to figure out how to fit all that you’d like to take home with you into your budget…

Stop back on Monday to see where the North American Shop Hop is visiting next. It’s called The Quilt Farm, and it will be a two post shop – one for the fabric, and one for the quilts!
