Owned by Rachel Burkholder, Country Fabrics is a 10,000 plus bolt shop in Ohio’s farm country. Located about 20 miles from Interstate 71 Exit 186, this shop carries both quilting fabric and dress goods, and is a vital part of the local Amish and Mennonite communities. This is a family business, with three generations present in the shop when I visited.
There is a wide selection of fabrics, from solids to blenders to flannels to prints. Plan to spend at least 45 minutes wandering shelves and just looking everything. If you have something you want to match, bring it along. Chances are you will find at least one match. Panels are hung from the rafters, which makes them easy to see, but you don’t have to climb to get them! Bolts of panels are at ground level. There are cutting tables at several locations in the store, so you don’t need to carry armfuls of bolts around. They do have carts, but I have a bad habit of thinking I don’t need one…
There is a wonderful selection of laces by the yard. I often trim unmentionables and pillowcases with lace, and have occasionally gone wild with laces for embellishing a quilt. Whatever you’re looking for, you’re likely to find it here.
The shop offers both long arm machine and Amish hand quilting. This quilt is a special order, hand quilted by the daughter of the owner, and is absolutely exquisite up close. If you have a quilt that you’d like to have hand quilted, or you have a vintage top that really needs to be done by hand instead of machine, this is the place to bring it.

The ladies are quite willing to help you make your selections if you are unsure, and there is a selection of Charm Packs and Jelly Rolls available. Just for fun, there is also a selection of housewares.
