If you are traveling west out of Cleveland, you will find Anna’s Sewing Center just two miles from the Interstate 480 beltway in North Olmsted. Owned by Rosanne Papadimoulis, the shop is named after her Grandmother Anna. Miss Anna’s picture is behind the counter, just keeping her eye on things. This unique shop is in a space that used to be a beauty shop, so there are some really fun features.
When you come in – look up! The entire ceiling is mirrors. This is great for both light distribution and keeping track of customers, so if they seem lost someone can go and help them out. The staff appears as if by magic! I was there on a rainy day, but with the reflections everywhere it was not at all gloomy, even in the back corners. I found the samples being reflected on the ceiling really fun.
There is a nice selection of fabrics here, with at least 700 bolts on hand. This number goes up during the holidays, sales, and Shop Hops, but that is the base. Fabrics range from blenders to bright prints, with some fun prints like donuts and hot dogs thrown in. There is also wide fabric for backings. Do you see that deep jewel toned bolt of striped borders hiding behind the pattern in the third picture? I have the print that matches it… eight yards of it for a future One Block Wonder!
Just for fun, there is a rounder of patterns with bag samples hanging from it. The patterns – and classes – are available for each of these. Some of hte samples have selected portions incomplete so you can see how they go together – very useful! Check out the geometric pattern in the second row. I have seen the quilt, but I’m not sure I have the nerve to try it. Any volunteers?
Do pay attention to the samples hanging around the shop. There are the table runners above the window, and quilts behind the tables in the classroom area. Sit and Sew happens Tuesdays and Thursdays – please check, this may change once we’re allowed to go out in public again!!
