The Quilt Barn Manchester, Ohio

Welcome to the accidental quilt shop! Shortly after her husband passed away, owner Ann Taylor bought the property behind her so no one else would. It came with a lovely building that looked like a place to house her long arm business, so she moved the machine in and went to work.

Customers enjoyed the large convivial space, but kept commenting that there was no fabric. Another shop in the area was closing, so Miss Ann made a deal on the inventory, and the rest, as they say, is history. The logo for the shop is three Ohio Stars, for her three daughters. The missing star in the block of four represents her husband – it was his half of their retirement that financed the start-up. The shop is run by Miss Ann, her daughter Mary, and granddaughter Gabby. They are an amazing team!

Make sure to check out the painted wooden copies of the twenty original barn quilt blocks found on The Quilt Trail, which are on the walls around the store. The beginning of the trail is located near the shop.

There are at least 2,500 bolts of fabric here, from solids and blenders to cheery prints to wide backings. There is also a nice selection of panels, with most having samples to give you suggestions as to what to do with them. There are also Oriental fabrics and child friendly prints. Notice the samples hung above the shelves – these are just a few of the many available!

This store started as a Long Arm Service – and is still very active, with two machines available. Edge to Edge is generally a one month turn. While you are in the store, check out granddaughter Gabby’s quilt. She made it and did the quilting, and is still in high school – and it is amazing!

As I mentioned above, there are samples on just about every wall in the fabric area, as well as behind the machines in the Long Arm room. You are sure to find something to inspire your next project! The one at the right is definitely a favorite, and what a great way to use a panel or scenery yardage! I have several that would work for this – so I bought the pattern.

Plan to spend 30 to 40 minutes here to see everything.
