In 2007, the owner of Grimm’s Funeral Home passed away. The building sat empty until 2013, when owner Becca Flack re-opened the building, not as Funeral Home, but as a quilt shop! The building has earned some interest due to its previous tenants. The Pittsburgh Ghost-busters have come to visit twice, but no ghosts have been found.
The shop is located in downtown Mount Pleasant just about seven miles from Pennsylvania Turnpike Route 66/Route 119. It is a delightful place to visit, and had a wonderful selection of fabrics and patterns. Perhaps the most unique is a quilt on loan to the shop for display made from Helene Knott’s Cat Vegetables Pillow Patterns. Ms. Knott came and taught at the annual October Retreat a few years ago, and one of her students was inspired!
Fabrics are stocked in alcoves by season – winter, spring, summer, and fall. In addition, there is a room where children’s fabrics are stored in cribs. The shop also sells finished quilts, and will take orders for custom pieces. Miss Becca has a relationship with local the local Amish community who complete the hand quilting if requested.
I found a whole shelf of Fossil Ferns, another line I am quite fond of, as well as two full shelves of wide backings. These are not monotone backings – there is a set of Northcott gradients (ombres) that go dark to light and back again, so if the quilt is on the bed back side showing it either looks light on the top with dark edges, or changes top to bottom of the bed, depending on how you choose to turn the back as you are quilting. And yes, I bought enough to do a quilt!
There are kits and patterns available. The shop also does consignment dales for items made by local crafters. I saw some dolls in traditional Amish dress, done by members of the local community.
Plan to spend 30 to 45 minutes here.

Stop back on Wednesday to see where the North American Shop Hop is visiting next!
Hi, this is Kate Hepler. I don’t know if Becky mentioned me. I was her business partner and shop co- owner prior to her move to Mt. Pleasant. I’d love to meet you sometime. Just returned from Lancaster this past Friday.
Yes, she spoke well of you. May I contact you in two weeks when I am back in the country?
