If you are camping in or visiting near Mears State Park on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan, take a walk (or drive) into Pentwater and visit Sew Let’s Be Quilty. Less than a mile from the park, this brand new shop, owned by Amy Shotwell, opened in June of 2019. It is a wonderful addition to the shops and restaurants available in Pentwater!
Knowing there are a lot of folks who are only in the area for vacation, Miss Amy runs a lot of “one shot” classes. These are projects that can be finished in the class. For example, she has a Bag of the Month Club – stop in, make a bag, and take it with you. There is also a Table Runner of the Month Club and a Pincushion of the Month Club with the same focus. In the area for an extended visit? I can see this as a great way to make a Christmas gift or two while you’re visiting!
Fabrics are modern and brights rather than calico or Civil War, but that doesn’t mean they don’t make adorable quilts, like this Erica Arndt Four Season’s sample (©2016 Erica Made Designs, LLC). The shop makes their own kits, and carries the Erica Arndt patterns. Miss Amy also designs Camper Pattern Pillows. Long arm services are available.
Don’t miss the great selection of cork fabric. Sew Let’s Be Quilty carries about a dozen different colors and styles. Some are hiding behind their friends, but aren’t these colors wonderful? I’ve not started sewing with cork yet, but I may have to just to play with these!
If you are in the area on a Wednesday, join the Lunch Ladies. Lunch is provided for a small fee. Stop in for first Friday of the month for First Friday Sew, and get the latest sewing tip or see the newest ruler. The local Women’s Club also uses space in the shop for their projects, so you may run into them.
Finally, watch the Sew Let’s Be Quilty’s website – Miss Amy is designing a line of Pentwater specific fabrics that will be coming next year. She showed me the galleys, and they are beautiful! I didn’t take pictures – she deserves to make that reveal herself! These will be available mail order as well as in the shop.
