Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, is a town 70 miles north of Lansing, and is the home of Keepsake Quilts, Inc. Owner Gerolyn Freeze started this business four years ago, and it is already a vital part of the community.
Keepsake Quilts hosts the local Quilts of Valor group. This group makes crafts – like the fleece mittens at the right – and sells them at local Craft Shows to pay for the long arm costs for their quilts. The shop is a drop off point for six local long arm services, so quilters don’t have to drive out of their way to get their quilts finished.
Did you ever want a tote bag you could take notes on, instead of having a tablet and pen? That’s just one possible application of the Chalk Board fabric found at Keepsake Quilting. Binder covers, tablets, and whatever else you can think of are also possibilities.
Whatever you do, do not miss the fabric! Blenders, neutrals, prints, and batiks are all represented here. Browse the shelves and let your mind wander – or look at the samples hung conveniently in the shop for inspiration.
I really enjoy antique furniture. This china cabinet is a wonderful display for notions, samples, patterns and pressing fluids. Admire the lovely oak grain while you shop for what you need. Keepsake Quilting also carries Embroidery Floss.
There are two Block of the Month groups in process, one using Thangles and one using solids. The two sample at the right are the same top in different color ways, and in person they are stunning!
Friday night there is an Open Sew from 10 AM to 5 PM – “Quilt ’til You Wilt.” The first Friday of each month is a Friday Night Sew In from 4 to 10 PM. There is a small fee to cover dinner and snacks for the First Friday evening session.
Other events during the year include off site retreats with guest speakers, and the Spring Fling, where new patterns are demonstrated and new fabric lines introduced. Keepsake Quilting also participates in the local spring Shop Hop. Plan at least an hour here to see everything this shop has to offer.
