Birdhouse Quilts Byron, Georgia

Less than a mile from the I75 Warner Robins exit in Georgia, is this gem of a quilt shop with easily 10,000 bolts of fabric.

Owned by Jessie and Tracy Reynolds, Birdhouse Quilts appears to be a warehouse from the outside, but don’t let that fool you.  Inside this veteran owned shop is a wide selection of fabrics, two long arm systems, sewing machines, and lots of fun and laughter.

You may be greeted by one of the two dash hound mascots – don’t worry, they may lick you silly but they are very friendly.  There is also a model of them under the front of the cash register…

Don’t miss the great variety of fabrics here.  From batiks to blenders to Northcott to wide backings in multiple colors and patterns, inspiration is everywhere.

Birdhouse Quilts has themed events to suit their name.  If you are there the first Saturday of the month, attend “Bird Call,” a Show and Tell of all of the new items in the store. Friday’s are “Flock Together” – bring what you’re working on and join friends old and new to spend the day in sewing and fellowship.

While you’re browsing around, look for and check out the shopping carts scattered around the sales floor.  These contain either new additions to the fabric collection or sale items. Each cart is near similar fabrics, so it’s a treasure hunt…

Birdhouse Quilts is the Gammill Dealer for Georgia and South Carolina.  There are two machines in the store, used to do edge to edge quilting on customer quilts.  This one was in process the day I visited.

The shop is also the mid-Georgia Bernina  dealer. Check out the machines, and ask for a demonstration. You can also pick up embroidery patterns while you are there. Don’t forget to admire the samples hung behind the machines, as well as the samples on every wall – even above the fabric shelves! Most have patterns and /or kits available, and some are samples for current classes.

  1. I like the purple /pink quilt in picture.
I can see a friend of mine making one that looked like this.
Fun looking shop. Cute dog, the real one and the quilted one.
