Quilter’s Fancy Cortland, Ohio

Just 15 miles north of I80 in Cortland, Ohio, is an embellisher’s dream called Quilter’s Fancy. Owned by Cindy Oravecz, this shop carries any item you could want to embellish a quilt, a dress, a handbag, or anything else. There is also a wide selection of fabrics for quilting, and a whole rack of different needles for hand and machine quilting.

There are French flat laces in multiple shades and patterns. Quilter’s Fancy is the national source for wired French Ombre ribbons. There are Australian sequins – not just round, but square, star, and other shapes as well. Miss Cindy gets the trims she wants from the best manufacturer for that item worldwide, so there are unique items from all over the world in the shop..

The local bead shop went out of business, so there is now a section of Quilter’s Fancy dedicated to beads and beading supplies. Tucked behind shelves of fabric are more ribbons and trims, and a shelf of Mokuba Floral trims – these need to be seen to be fully appreciated!

With all of the trims, don’t miss the fabric! There is a lot of Northcott available, including Stonehenge. This shop carries all of the William Morris styles, buying each new one as it becomes available. There is also a selection of digital prints, as well as a couple of shelves of Kaffe Fassett, and blenders, and … There is wool available as well, and a “Wooly Block Adventure” Block of the Month Club. Quilt and project kits are available.

The shop is a pick up and drop off point for Long Arm services.

If you want to learn Crazy Quilting, it is one of the classes offered at Quilter’s Fancy. Deb Tucker’s Lemoyne Star is also taught – check out the website for more classes.

Miss Cindy has also written books on and teaches ruching and three dimensional ribbon and fabric flowers. Ruching is a method of pleating fabrics and trims to make decorations. In earlier times it was used to trim hats, sleeves, and hems. Today it makes wonderful flowers on quilts as well.

Plan at least an hour and a half here to see all of the fabrics and trims available.
