As you’re heading up to visit Amish Country in central Ohio, plan to stop in Sugarcreek at Carlisle Fabric & Quilts, LLC. Owned by sisters Verna and Esta Yoder, this store started as a clothing store and still carries dress goods, gloves, hats, and so on.
They were offered the opportunity to buy out a local quilt shop and rearranged the store to make it work. Easily half of the store is currently dedicated to quilting supplies.

As you enter the shop, go left for clothing and right for quilting. Cutting counters are conveniently located down the center. If you have children along, there is a selection of toys to amuse them towards the back of the shop.
Don’t miss the samples on display throughout the store, like this beautiful Bargello. Space constraints mean they do not offer classes, but the staff can answer questions and provide advice if needed.
Carlisle Fabric and Quilts carries crochet cotton, which is useful for both crochet and tatting – two hobbies my oldest sister enjoys! There is also a great collection of quilting rulers and cutting mats, just in case you are looking for something new, or you forgot to bring one with you – we quilters can always use a spare ruler! There are some completed table runners, place mats, and other items for sale as well.
Plan to spend at least an hour here, just to give you time to browse all of the fabrics, patterns, rulers, and samples available.

A quilter with a significant other who is into woodworking/home center/hardware stores visiting this area would do well to drop of SO first thing in the morning at Keim Lumber in Charm OH and then visit quilt shops in the area, picking up SO around 4:30. Keim’s is what “normal” big box home centers wish they could be when they grow up; and includes a cafe for lunch…
Big sis who is also a woodworker who didn’t get even half way through Keims in 2 hours.
