Two Friends Quilting Wasilla, Alaska

Located just about six and one half miles from AK-3, this shop was started four and a half years ago by friends and retired school teachers Vicki Keller, from Washington, and Bev Thomson, born in the Territory of Alaska. Both are very experienced quilters, and when you’re done teaching children, why not follow your passion and teach folks to quilt? Both have a love of bright colors, so the shop is +a step into a springtime meadow!

There are over 3,000 bolts of fabric here, including solids and blenders and a nice selection of tone on tones. Large prints suitable for Stack-n-Whack are everywhere, or if you prefer smaller prints you’ll find them as well. There is a wall of brilliant batiks, and a nook just full of Alaskan themed prints. Wide backs are available, and wildlife panels are displayed throughout the shop. Walk to the back and check out the long arm system – more on that later. Don’t miss the M&S Australian Aboriginal prints! I like this company because they acknowledge the designer on the selvage, and publish a flyer explaining the symbology in the prints. There is also a selection of quilt kits and patterns for your temptation and enjoyment.

Samples are on display mainly around the long arm system – the rest of the walls are covered with racks of fabric! Two Friends is the Alaskan dealer for Handi Quilter, and they do quilting for customers on a machine in the back of the shop.

If you’ve never seen one of these machines in person, wander back and check it out! If there is a technique you’d like to learn, or just basic quilting, ask! The shop does personalized one on one classes tailored to your interests. I would plan at least twenty to thirty minutes here, longer if you’re like me and get to chatting…

  1. Thank you for your review of our shop. We love chatting with folks, so yes, it will probably take you longer than half an hour when you drop in. Bolt count is up to around 2500. We are the local dealer for Handi Quilter and do service in house.

Hope you make it back in on your next trip!
