Located out in the country among the township roads about 20 miles south of Interstate 80, this shop is well worth the drive. Google Maps took me right to the front door, and after that it was all temptation! It is the second shop I visited in the Mifflinburg area, and by far the larger of the two. Owner Verna Duke has been running the shop for over 38 years, and she knows quilting! She carries over 10,000 bolts of fabric, and she know what she has and where it is. The shop is well organized, and also has a great line of notions at very reasonable prices – think a box of straight pins for dollars less than the big chain store…
Speaking of those 10,000 bolts of fabric…There are solids and blenders, tone on tones, and grunge. There is a shelf of fruit and vegetable prints. Batiks are available, and there are over 200 different wide backs. Large and small prints are also available. This shop is a Stack-n-Whack dream! Being in the greater Gettysburg area, there is also a great selection of Civil War Reproduction fabrics. Flannel is available in both 45” and 60″ widths. Check out the bin of homespun on rolls at the end of the counter. As you may recall, Homespun is yarn dyed so there is no right or wrong side – wonderful for strip wreaths and quilters like me who always sew one piece wrong side out! Patterns, rulers, and notions are here as well. There is a also a nice selection of clothing (poly cotton) fabric.
Laces and webbing in multiple colors is available inside the entry, and there are a lot of trims, bias, and twill tapes above the cutting counter. I got some wonderful purple webbing for the ruler bag I’m working on! The webbing is both nylon and cotton.
I would plan at least an hour here – I was waiting for my sister, who dove down from Rochester, New York, and didn’t even notice when she was a hour behind schedule…
