The Treadle II Bloomington, Illinois

This extremely well-stocked shop is located just over ten miles from Interstate 74 in the Eastland Park Plaza. Owner Vickie Kingdom has been serving local quilters for years, and has one of the largest collections of charm packs and jelly rolls I have seen in my travels so far. The store looks small from the outside, but it has a LOT of fabric inside!

About the fabric – there are well over 10,000 bolts on hand, including solids and blenders. There is an entire shelf of black tone on tone, not to mention white and cream. There are batiks, Civil War prints, and a good sized section of patriotic fabrics. I saw literally hundreds of prints that I would love to stack and whack – check out the grapes pictured below! I would make a strip stack from the print with the all over grapes as the edge print. There are also wide backings, and Faux Fur (think teddy bears or other stuffed animals) in at least 20 colors. Don’t miss the panels, many of which make books. I also use these as children’s quilt blocks, so they can read the book while using the quilt. There is a nice collection of notions to browse through as well. The walls are covered with shelves of fabric, so there aren’t samples – but there are patterns and kits.

I mentioned Jelly Rolls – this is just one shelf of these jewels, and there are more. There is also a large collection of charm packs, layer cakes, and fat quarter packs, and at very reasonable prices, too. If you are looking for a particular fabric, do ask. I found that Miss Vickie knows not only what she has but where on the shelves it is located. I spent nearly an hour just looking at all of the fabrics, so I would plan at least 30 to 45 minutes here.
