Mary’s Stitch & Knit Shop LLC Rochester, Indiana

Located in central Indiana farm country, this wonderful shop was built in 1970 and started doing weddings in 1973. The name come from the fact that originally all of the fabrics were double knit – remember those back in the early 70’s? Now owner Mary Baker carries predominantly cotton quilting fabric, although the shop still does alterations and rents tuxedos. You can also find 70-72″ wide tablecloth fabrics here.

The shop is run by her daughter Mary Lynne Frye. She and her husband Phil were also the shop’s first wedding, 48 1/2 years ago. Baker Vacuum Sales (and service) are also housed in the shop – turn right after entering the shop to find these. They also do alterations, so if you’ve lost weight and need to have something taken in, do give them a call.

Now, back to the fabrics. There are well over 1,200 bolts of quilting cottons here, ranging from solids and blenders to large and small prints. Those red roses on the bottom shelf, below, would Stack-n-Whack wonderfully, and the white background next to the oranges isn’t bad, either.! Wide backs are available to complete you quilt without those annoying seams from piecing. Fleece is available, as are flannels. Don’t miss the Jelly Rolls and fat quarter bundles! There are also some adorable panels, and a nice collection of patterns and books..

Speaking of panels – check out these guys! They would love to follow you home and become a full sized quilt. I can see them as the cornerstone for a half log cabin, or sashed with polka dots for one of my grandchildren. There is a wonderful paw print pattern for edge to edge quilting that would look wonderful with these fellows!

The shop is a drop off and pick-up point for local long armers, so if you need to have a quilt finished, please call for more information. Plan to spend 20 to 30 minutes here.
