This shop is primarily sewing machines, but quite worth the stop, as there are some fabrics as well – not to mention seeing what the latest machines can do! Owner John Ramsey is the third generation to own this shop, which opened just ever 50 years ago. They are located less than two miles from Interstate 44.
There are probably less than 500 bolts of fabric here, including quilting and clothing fabrics. For the embroidery enthusiast, there is a great selection of stabilizers. Quilters will find backings, as well as solids and a few prints. Clothing fabrics include corduroys, rayon, and a nice selection of notions. On the other hand, there are bag zippers, including zippers by the yard with multiple pulls, which most quilt shops do not carry. I can see using these for the ruler bag that I am planning to make for carrying my cutting mat and rulers when I travel and go to classes.
Of course, the main focus here is the machines. Mr. John has some wonderful older machines. The one on the left is the from 1943, and is the first zigzag open arm machine Bernina made. The one on the right is from 1954 and is the first machine made with cams for different stitches. The ones shown below are far more modern, but I found it fascinating to see what machines used to look like and do. The shop sells machines from the small Bernette to complete long-arm systems.
The other fun thing here is threads of all kinds. If you have an embroidery machine, you can find just about any color you are looking for in this shop. There is also Scissortail Stitches Embroidery Software available.
Please plan to spend at least twenty to thirty minutes here, before going next door to Monday’s shop!
