Located virtually next door to Tiny Stitches, and also between Interstate 76 and Interstate 471, this is the second of two remaining shops in the Heritage Marketplace. Owned by Mary Lou Kalb, this shop is also most easily found by turning at the giant black and white cow and following the signs.
This is both a Craft Store and a Quilt Shop, so don’t limit your group to just quilters! However, for the quilters, there are over 1,200 bolts of quilting cotton in house, as well as over 200 panels and a nice collection of flannels. There is a whole section of fabrics that is just dogs and cats. There are solids and blenders, as well as tone on tone. Batiks are well represented, and prints both large and small are available through out the shop. There are kits in cotton, flannel, and wool. Completed cloth books as well as the panels to make them are on hand. I have made some fun children’s quilts using the pages for cloth books as the centers of the blocks.
Samples are displayed through out the shop, and most have kits and / or patterns available. Many of the patterns are in house designs, particularly the wool Penny Rugs. Check the walls and see what is hung from the ceilings as you travel through the shop! Can’t find what you’re looking for? Stop at the front counter and ask the staff – they were quite helpful and knew right where my item was located – which was wonderful, since I am recovering from a knee replacement.
In the gift department, completed quilts, table runners, and pillows are available, as are kits to make them yourselves or gift tot the quilter of your choice. There are also handmade Christmas Ornaments, and kits to make them, available year round. Don’t miss the second half of the store, where there is more fabric and a great collection of craft supplies, from wooden beads and letters to DMC embroidery floss, ribbons, and trims.
I would plan to be here for at least thirty to forty-five minutes, although I can tell you I spent a lot longer…
