Located less than two miles from Interstate 29 on a gravel road, the drive to this shop really emphasizes city to farm in a short distance – one of the things I enjoy most as I travel around the country. Miss Glenda has been in business here since 1988, and started with upholstery and then moved into quilting. The shop is located in a trailer with a basement underneath. The long arm is downstairs, and the shop has taken over the entire trailer upstairs.
Fabric shelves have been fitted into any and all available space, with over 900 bolts on hand. The kitchen counter has become the cutting table. Styles include solids, blenders, tone on tone, and batiks. There is a small selection of Grunge – like many shops this has been back ordered for some time and is gradually being shipped in, so stock of this will vary. Large and small prints are here as well. Add to that Jelly Rolls, Fat Quarter Packs, Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes. There are also quilt kits with matching samples and a nice selection of patterns.
This shop had the most easily photographed of the official quilt for the Highway 36 Quilt Trail that I had seen so far. Each shop has kits for one set of blocks in the final quilt, so if you collect as you go, you will end up with a kit and instructions to make the quilt shown at the right. You can also just buy the block kits an do your own thing with them once they are finished – quilter’s choice!
The shop offers Long Arm Services; please call for pricing and lead times. Miss Glenda offered to take me downstairs to see the machine; I declined her gracious offer to protect the knee that is being replaced soon…
Plan to spend twenty to thirty minutes here – and don’t let the gravel road scare you!
