Take a nice 20 mile detour off of Interstate 74 to find this dynamic shop. Owned by Trisa Martin (think Lisa for pronunciation), this shop is both a great quilt shop and a mini mall of consignment goods. Spaces are rented out to local crafters to allow them to sell what they make, and the selection is wonderful. For a town of less that 3,000 residents, there is a lot going on here, and this shop is one of the town’s activity centers.
There are over 500 bolts of fabric here, with styles ranging from solids and blenders to Grunge in solids and dots, as well as flannels. There is a great selection of farm prints, so if you are looking for farm animals, this is the place to look. I was very tempted to try a Stack-N-Whack with cows! Wide backs are available in several styles. Samples are made for new fabric collections, and then sold when the collection sells out. If you like the sample, you can reserve it for when it comes up for sale.
Check out this bin of Fat Quarters – I had to laugh at the notice posted. There was a flap on one of the social media outlets awhile back about quilters being suspended for abusive language when they referred to “fat quarters.” No one in the shop had heard of it, but this sign certainly sets the record straight!
Classes are back in house here. There was a group working on Barn Quilt Blocks when I stopped in, and they were gorgeous! Other classes are also available; please call for details, costs, and schedules. There is also a class available on how to use the long arm system, which you can then rent to finish your masterpieces. If you prefer, they can be freehand quilted by Miss Trisa. Pricing is also available for binding the quilt after long arming; please call for details.
The shop offers scissor and knife sharpening and sewing machine repair. Like many small town shops I have visited, it provides whatever the community needs, so folks don’t need to go searching for it in neighboring towns. This includes making Memory Quilts and T-Shirt quilts. I was here about an hour; plan to spend at least 30 to 40 minutes. Do take time to greet the adorable shop mascot, Charlie, before you leave.
