Quilt Beginnings Dublin, Ohio

This shop is less than a mile from the Interstate 270 beltway around Columbus. Owned by Cathy Daum, this is one of my “day trip shops” I go to when I am looking for unique fabrics and patterns. I drive out here three or four times a year just to see what’s new!

Featuring at least 5,000 bolts of fabric, based on a conservative estimate, you will need some time to browse this shop, so plan to be in the store for 30 to 45 minutes minimum. There are batiks, solids and blenders, Ruby Star fabrics, and a great selection of prints, including the Gypsy Soul collection. If you have not seen Gypsy Soul yet, you need to stop in and have a look. This is an Ombre selvage to selvage print in wonderfully bright colors, and I am working on designing a pattern to use it. I have been resisting the temptation to buy a yard of each color until I have a plan… Then there are flannels, wide backings, Cuddle up to 90″ widths, and Kimberbell embroidery patterns.

Samples are hung on just about every wall, so look up as you are strolling from room to room checking out the fabrics. There is a wall of patterns from which to make your selection, and kits are available or can be created for any one that suites your needs. That wonderful stitching example below is from a class. Please call the shop for more details if you’d like to learn how to do this. Their classroom is set up for social distancing and has it’s own entrance.

The shop carries Baby Lock, Bernina, and Pfaff sewing machines, and has two factory trained technicians in house to service them. If your baby needs a home, consider a Kangaroo Cabinet. These fold into a much smaller space for storage, but open out large enough to support your biggest quilt while you’re sewing.
