Situated 23 miles from Interstate 90 and in front of Nine Mile Creek, one of the area’s premier trout streams, is an old horse farm turned quilt shop. Owned by Judi and Tom West, the building design was originally for a horse barn, but adapts wonderfully for a quilt shop, with radiant heat in the floor to keep in cozy during New York winters and high windows to keep the sunlight from fading the fabric.
The building was constructed in 2005 and occupied in 2006, when the shop moved from a 19 year stay in Skaneateles (think Skinny Atlas) a few miles down the road to their current location. The new location allowed adding fabric – currently over 6,000 bolts on hand – as well as long arm services in house. You can take a class and then rent time on the long arm.
Fabrics include a lot of Moda, Kaffe Fassett, Grey Sky Studio, Minky, Grunge in plain and dots, wools, and batiks. Solids, blenders, and prints are all well represented on shelving custom built by the couple’s son-in-law. There is a nice selection of tone on tone prints. Fabric is displayed on a color wall that makes matching a specific shade quite easy, and the resident granddaughter, who has worked in the store since she was old enough to do so, will happily help you with matching, as will any other staff person.
Samples are available everywhere, and there are patterns to match. Classes will resume once the COVID rules allow them, so please keep checking back or sign up for the newsletter.
The store is a registered Bernina Dealer, so take some time to look at the machines while you are in the store. There a deals running all of the time, so plan to be tempted! You will need 30 to 45 minutes to see everything this shop has to offer.
